MCA Youth calls upon the Minister of Transport, YB Anthony Loke, to launch immediate interventions and a comprehensive, transparent action plan to restore public confidence in the public transport system. Malaysians deserve reliability, safety, and accountability from a service that is meant to move the nation forward.

Yesterday evening (9 Oct 2025), at the peak of rush hour, yet another service disruption along the Kelana Jaya LRT line (KJ line) plagued commuters once again. The KJ line encountered issues that affected stations between Bangsar to KL Gateway Universiti and Abdullah Hukum, extending to Taman Jaya. According to RapidKL’s official statement, the service disruption was caused by a power supply issue. How long can we accept these explanations when thousands of Malaysians face long delays and unnecessary stress?

The frequent power disruptions on the KJ line must be investigated immediately. The Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke, can no longer afford to stand by. Yesterday’s incident again revealed a lack of preparedness among RapidKL management. Many commuters reported poor communication, slow updates, and weak coordination in arranging alternative transport such as shuttle buses. Public comments have rightly criticised the lack of crisis management, and this is not the first time.

Among the disruptions to the KJ line this year alone, which highlight both passenger inconvenience and safety risks, include:
• March 2025: wall panel collapse due to a storm at Masjid Jamek station
• March 2025: explosion-like noises at Abdullah Hukum station, later found to be caused by foreign objects on the tracks
• June 2025: track switch disruption between Pasar Seni and Bangsar
• October 2025: power outage leaving thousands of passengers stranded

These are only the major incidents and do not include other disruptions affecting the MRT. Regular commuters continue to face near-weekly issues including slow trains, faulty systems, and overcrowded platforms, especially during peak hours. Many have questioned why these breakdowns so often occur at rush hour. Is the KJ line simply unable to handle the daily volume of passengers?

The broader concern remains that LRT and MRT services continue to suffer from poor frequency, recurring mechanical faults, and limited capacity during high-demand periods. The repeated disruptions and inefficiencies are deeply concerning. The rakyat should not be expected to keep accepting excuses when these failures affect their daily routines and productivity.

In March, when public concern over the KJ line was at its height, MCA Youth had already raised the issue of repeated breakdowns and the urgent need for a full investigation. We highlighted that public confidence in RapidKL was steadily declining due to ongoing service failures and the absence of accountability. Yet, several months later, once again, another major incident confronts commuters with little sign of lasting improvement.

Apologies without real action are no longer enough.
