The action of the administrator of a local fast food restaurant, Darsa Fried Chicken (DFC), who made a racially charged statement on a social media platform, is deeply embarrassing and concerning.

When social media users questioned DFC’s prices, the outlet’s social media administrator responded that customers should not be “duped by the negative sentiments played up by type C.”

Not only is such a statement insulting and defamatory with the mala fide intention of stirring public resentment against the Chinese community, this racial profiling and bigotry have no place and is clearly out of line in peace-loving Malaysia.

Netizens as consumers, were merely inquiring about the prices of the fried chicken sold at the restaurant. However, its administrator responded by touching on racial issues. This conduct neither professional nor responsible, and clearly, betrayed one’s own racial prejudices.

Although DFC has since apologized and explained that the description was an unintentional mistake, it has clearly hurt the feelings of the Chinese community in our country and, in turn, could affect harmony and integration. Authorities need to investigate this matter and take action against the individuals involved, as well as understand the real purpose behind issuing a such slur.

I urge all segments of society to uphold the spirit of harmony, goodwill and rationality in all matters. Instead of advocating for any issue without considering its impact on the harmony and unity of our country, these futile issues do not contribute to progress and development, but instead, will regress our beloved nation.
