Uniforms are the pride of any organisation as they represent unity, team spirit and a common vision. MCA Youth is deeply concerned by the mishaps during the unveiling of Malaysia's 2024 Paris Olympics team apparel and the shortcomings of its design. The Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh, must acknowledge the widespread criticism and take decisive action to rectify the situation instead of trying to distance herself from responsibility.

The design for Malaysia's Olympic contingent’s uniforms has come under criticism for lacking originality and inspiration. Moreover, the launch event itself was lampooned for its lack of professionalism and respect towards athletes. This included using mannequins instead of athletes to showcase the uniforms, guests holding fake torches, and flames on the torches being replaced with red paper flowers. These issues underscore the Ministry of Youth and Sports' frivolous and dismissive attitude towards this significant international event. As the Youth and Sports Minister, Hannah Yeoh cannot simply sprint from full responsibility.

Her attempts to deflect responsibility by claiming that uniform design fell outside the Ministry's scope are irresponsible, fails to reflect well on her leadership and is unworthy as a beacon of light for impressionable youths. The Ministry of Youth and Sports is the highest authority responsible for national sports and international participation. Yet, Hannah Yeoh has sprints away from acknowledging and addressing these shortcomings, preferring instead to shirk responsibility and blame others.

In contrast, during Malaysia's 2016 Olympics, then-Minister Khairy Jamaluddin personally engaged with uniform design, ensuring they met standards by visiting the designer's shop personally to try on the uniform prototypes to ensure ideal fit and appearance. This proactive and hands-on approach stands in stark contrast to Hannah Yeoh's lack of commitment. If Khairy could do it, why can't Hannah?

If Hannah Yeoh could dress herself in pink and black for Blackpink’s concert, why is she not taking any interest in the Malaysian Olympic contingent’s uniforms?

If the Ministry continues to treat significant events like the Olympics lightly, what expectations can Malaysians have? Public feedback isn't just about outcomes but also about the Minister's accountability. By undertaking the necessary remedial measures and accepting responsibility instead of trying to distance herself, she would be demonstrating statesman-like qualities.
